Mark Alford, M.D., and Matthew Hammons, M.D., specialize in plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, forehead, orbit, and lacrimal system in adults and children. Both are board certified in ophthalmology and have completed two additional years of training exclusively dedicated to the subspecialty of ophthalmic plastic surgery. As nationally recognized leaders in their field, they routinely speak and teach at national meetings and are active in several professional organizations such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
A native of Denton, Texas, Dr. Alford is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his residency in ophthalmology and his fellowship in ophthalmic plastic surgery at the University of Iowa. Together with Dr. Robert Kennedy, he founded North Texas Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery in 2003.
Dr. Alford has authored many articles and book chapters on topics in ophthalmic plastic surgery. He developed and teaches the blepharoplasty course at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In 2001, Dr. Alford received the prestigious Research Award from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Hammons was born in El Paso and grew up in Houston. He graduated from Baylor University and Baylor College of Medicine. After completing his ophthalmology residency with distinction at Duke University Medical Center, he completed a two year ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Indiana University. Dr. Hammons has authored numerous journal articles in the ophthalmic plastic surgery literature.
